The Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) Wednesday accused the administration of caretaker government of dictating to the magistracy and thereby flouting the High Court (HC) orders granting bail to politicians facing corruption charges, reports UNB.
At an unplanned press conference, SCBA president barrister Shafique Ahmed urged the Chief Justice to look into the matter and order action against those magistrates who were acting at the dictate of the executive.
The SCBA president cited some incidents where some politicians winning bails from the HC were re-arrested soon after being released from jails.
He said such victims include Awami League presidium member and former MP Kazi Zafarullah, Awami League leader and former Minister Mosharraf Hossain, former BNP whip Ashraf Hossain, former power and energy secretary Toufiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury, former PS to Sheikh Hasina Rabiul Muktadir Chowdhury and Chhatra League general secretary Mahfuzul Haider Chowdhury Roton.
Narrating a strategy of re-arrest, Barrister Shafique said: "After having been released from jail, the politicians were taken to undisclosed places from jail gate and re-arrested under EPR section 16 (2). In its GD police falsely accused that they delivered provocative speech against the government, naming a false place in the city."
SCBA secretary Nurul Islam Sujan, Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia, Yusuf Hossain Humayun, Zoynul Abedin and Enaytur Rahin were present, among others, at the press conference.
