Awami League (AL) acting president Zillur Rahman Sunday demanded of the caretaker government and the Election Commission to declare the political parties of 'war criminals' ineligible for participating in the election and deny them registration.
The AL acting president made the strong plea while addressing the leaders of Jubo League-the youth front of the party-who met with him on the occasion of its 35th founding anniversary at his Gulshan residence in the city Sunday, reports UNB.
"The war criminals don't believe in the independence and sovereignty of the country and none of those who do not believe in the country's independence and sovereignty has any right to do politics", he said.
The whole nation is now united and the nation wants trial of those who opposed the country's War of Liberation, the AL leaders said.
"War criminals are now boasting and the nation is realising the imperative of putting them to trial", Zillur said.
AL senior presidium member Tofail Ahmed said national consensus has been created against the war criminals and they should be tried under the consensus of the nation.
"Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed and Chief of Army General Moeen U Ahmed have assured the nation about the trial of the war criminals…Now we are waiting to see the war criminals on trial", Tofail said.
AL leaders Syed Ashraful Islam, Subid Ali Bhuiyan, Dipu Moni and Akter Hossain Khoka, and Jubo League leaders Mijanur Rahman, Harun-or-Rashid, Mujibur Rahman Chowdhury, Mahabubur Rahman Hiron, Mohiuddin Ahmed Mohi, Nurun Nabi Chowdhury and Mainul Hossain Khan Nikhil were present.
Earlier, the Jubo League leaders placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and at the graves of Jubo League founder Sheikh Fazlul Huq Moni, and those killed on August 15, 1975 at Banani Graveyard and offered fateha for eternal peace of their souls.
Milad and special prayers were held on the occasion.
