A minister said on Monday Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had brought qualitative changes in politics, reports BSS.

"Bangabandhu had brought politics to the general people from the aristocrat class of the society. He had brought up leadership from the grassroots and involved the middleclass Bengali educated society in the politics," he said.

Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "Our Liberation War, Bangabandhu and Bangladesh" organised by Liberation War, Bangabandhu and Bangladesh Research Institute of National University on the university campus in Gazipur marking the Independence Day.

Bangabandhu had introduced his non-communal mentality by turning the name of Awami Muslim League into Awami League. He had upheld the hopes and desires of people of the country, irrespective of caste, creed and religion and it was evident in his declaration of the six-point, Noor said.

The cultural affairs minister said Bangabandhu's historic 7th March Speech was the declaration of Independence.
