Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Riva Ganguly Das on Monday described Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as the founder of modern Bangladesh and one of the most influential and courageous leaders of the 20th century, reports UNB.
She made the remarks at a book gifting session on the Father of the Nation as part of the 'MujibBorsho' celebrations.
Books on Bangabandhu and Liberation War written by acclaimed authors and historians have been gifted to 100 universities and colleges across Bangladesh, including those situated in Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Rajshahi and Sylhet, among others.
Keynote speaker at the event was Barrister MohibulHasan Chowdhury, the Deputy Minister for Education.
He spoke on Bangabandhu and his message for the post-liberation generation.
He thanked the high commission for this notable initiative and reiterated the extraordinary strength and warmth that India and Bangladesh relations enjoy.
The high commissioner expressed the hope that through these books, young students would better appreciate and understand Bangabandhu and help realise his dream of 'Sonar Bangla'.
Reflecting back on Bangabandhu's rich legacy, the high commissioner said that Bangabandhu also laid the foundations for India-Bangladesh relations.
Vice -chancellors of select universities who participated in the event were Prof Satya Prasad Majumder (BUET, Dhaka); Prof Dr Mohammed FayekUzzaman (Khulna University); Prof Dr Mohammed RafiqulAlam (CUET, Chittagong); Farid Uddin Ahmed (Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, Sylhet); Prof M AbdusSobhan (Rajshahi University); and Prof Gautam Buddha Das (CVASU, Chittagong).
