The historic Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was observed in the country Monday by paying rich tributes to the great leader.
Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Bangabandhu Museum in the city Monday morning, reports BSS.
Subsequently the leaders and activists of AL and its associate organisations placed wreaths at Bangabandhu's portrait marking the day.
President M Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion, calling upon the people to take a fresh vow to build a non-communal, democratic and welfare country on the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu.
On this day, they said, the architect of independent Bangladesh and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who led the War of Liberation and struggled for independence, returned to his sovereign homeland after being freed from a Pakistani prison.
AL and its associate organisations drew up elaborate programmes to observe the day in a befitting manner.
The programmes included hoisting of national and party flags at the central office of the party, Bangabandhu Bhaban and party offices across the country at 7:00 am, placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu at 7:30 am and holding discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre at 3:00 pm.
A delegation of AL leaders placed wreaths at the graveyard of Bangabandhu at Tungipara in Gopalganj Monday morning.
Later, doa and milad mahfil was held at the graveyard of Bangabandhu.
Besides, different political and socio-cultural organisations observed various programmes marking the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu. The programmes included placing of wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu, discussion, milad and doa mahfil and distribution of winter clothes among the distressed people.
