January 10, 2010 00:00:00

The historic Homecoming Day of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman will be observed in the country today (Sunday) in a befitting manner, reports BSS.
On this day in 1972, the architect of the independence and unparalleled leader of the Bangali nation Bangabandhu returned home after nine and a half months of captivity in Pakistan jail.
Tens of thousands of people had given a hearty welcome to Bangabandhu when he arrived at Tejgaon Airport from New Delhi by a British Airways flight on January 10.
President Zillur Rahman and Prime minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages on the occasion.
In his message, the President expressed his belief that the independence and sovereignty of the country would remain safeguarded as long as all will uphold the ideals of Bangabandhu.
The President said, "I am confident that we shall be able to materialise dreams of Bangabandhu with collective efforts."
Zillur Rahman urged all irrespective of party affiliation to work together to build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh.
Hasina in her message called upon the people to take a fresh vow to build a non- communal, democratic and welfare country on the day.
Bangladesh Awami League (AL) has drawn up elaborate programmes to observe the Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
