Bangalis lay siege to BDR security camp

KHAGRACHHARI, Aug 11 (UNB): Bangali inhabitants Tuesday obstructed the dismantling of a BDR security camp at Chhoto Panchhari under Panchhari Upazila under a phased army-pullout plan being executed by the present government in implementation of the CHT peace treaty.
As per government directive to remove the Chhoto Panchhari BDR camp by today (Wednesday), the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR) authorities started the decamping process Tuesday.
"Worried about their security in the event of removal of the camp, the protesters gathered around and kept the camp besieged," says a spot account of the demonstrations.
UNO Abdul Kader and Maj Ashraf, second-in-command of Panchhari BDR zone, rushed to the spot and assured the Bangalis of ensuring their security following the pullout of the paramilitary force from the camp.
