Bangladesh has been made the chair of the UN Credentials Committee for the 69th General Assembly and the 29th Special Session, report agencies.
With the support of eight out of the nine member countries in the committee- China, US, Russia, Jamaica, Namibia, Senegal and Brazil passed the chairmanship to Bangladesh, said a release.
Bangladesh Permanent Representative at the UN Dr AKA Momen was handed over the responsibilities as the chairman at a meeting of the credentials committee on September 19. Bangladesh Mission's Counselor Mohammad Mahmuduzzaman will be the coordinator of the body.
The UN Credentials Committee is formed ahead of the General Assembly every year. It consists of nine members, who are appointed by the General Assembly on the proposal of its President.
The Committee reports to the Assembly on the credentials of representatives.
