Bangladesh-China 'road link' to boost trade

Road connection between Bangladesh and China will increase the bilateral trade manifold and will also open up a new opportunity for Bangladesh to boost its tourism industry.
Bangladesh team made the observation while speaking at the first Bangladesh-China Cooperation dialogue at track II level in Kunming, capital of Yunnan province, on October 15.
The dialogue was organised to establish direct road link between the two countries via Myanmar to promote trade and commerce, reports BSS.
Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS), a leading think tank of the country, and Yunnan Development Research Centre (YDRC) held the two-day dialogue covering various research findings to consolidate socio-economic relations between the two countries as well as how Bangladesh could benefit from rising economy of China.
A four-member BIPSS delegation led by its President Major General (retd) Muniruzzaman took part in the dialogue.
The other members of the delegation were Editor-in-chief of UNB Enayetullah Khan, Director (research) of BIPSS Dr Mahmud Ali and BIPSS Research Analyst Khaled Iqbal Chowdhury.
Apart from China, the BIPSS has established track II level dialogue mechanism with India and Singapore and held yearly meetings with the partners to promote bilateral ties.
Chinese scholars from YDRC and Yunan universities, officials from foreign offices, commercial departments, communication and transportation department, education department, tourism administration and cultural department constituted the Chinese delegation at the dialogue.
Based on the theme of 'Strengthening Bilateral, International and Promoting Pragmatic Cooperation in All-around Way", the speakers at the dialogue conducted detailed discussion on various issues ranging from communication, business, education and culture to tourism.
