Colombo, Aug 01 (UNB) - US Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Richard Boucher Friday said that Bangladesh was on "a good track" towards holding general election by the end of this year.
Boucher made the comment while he called on Chief Adviser Dr Fakhruddin Ahmed at the CA's Cinnamon Grand Hotel suite when issues tied to election, food security and counter-terrorism were discussed.
The CA told the US Assistant Secretary that preparation of holding national polls is at the final stage. He especially mentioned about the successful completion of voter lists and national ID card of over 80 million people in 11 months.
Fakhruddin said that many had doubted whether the government would be able to complete the gigantic task of preparing the voter lists with photographs.
But the government has been successful, Fakhruddin said, adding "credit goes to the people".
He repeated that general election would be held in December.
On food security, the head of the caretaker government said his government was doing its best at home to this end while efforts to procure wheat from international market were also on.
