Bangladesh, Laos discuss expansion of bilateral trade

Under Bangladesh's leadership all least developed countries (LDCs) including Laos will work to achieve the success of the Brussels Programme of Action for LDCs and landlocked countries.
Visiting Laotian Deputy Foreign Minister Phongsavath Boupha expressed the hope while talking to Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury at the latter's office in the city Monday, reports UNB.
The Laotian deputy minister congratulated the foreign adviser upon his election as chairman of the group of LDCs.
Boupha discussed possibilities of expansion of bilateral trade.
He showed interest in importing pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh and skilled labour for the growing construction industry in his country.
They also discussed simplification of visa procedure to facilitate visit by Bangladeshis to Laos and vice versa
Boupha stated that his country has decided to appoint an Honorary Consul General in Bangladesh.
The adviser suggested the prospect of training of young Laotian diplomats and military officers at Bangladeshi institutions.
He reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to expand economic and political relations with the neighbouring ASEAN and Far Eastern countries.
Talking to journalists, Boupha said he had very useful talks with the adviser.
Next year they will celebrate the 20th anniversary of establishment of Bangladesh-Laos diplomatic relations in a befitting manner.
