Bangladesh is a very important member of the United Nations (UN) and plays a leading role in peacekeeping activities and other important issues.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said this while speaking to the media following his formal meeting with Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury Monday, reports UNB.
"Russia is viewing the latest moves at normalisation of relations in South Asian region and welcomes the initiative of Bangladesh in this process", Lavrov said.
"I am convinced that the talks Chowdhury is holding in Russia will really help advance our cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries", he said.
In response to a question on developments within Bangladesh, the Russian minister remarked: "We support the efforts of the leadership of that country for stabilisation and also for advancing further the democratic foundations of their system".
