Bangladesh is looking for strengthening relations with the countries in the East apart from the West.
Adviser for Foreign Affairs Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury made the observation while briefing journalists after a meeting with Myanmar Foreign Minister Saw Thin at the state guesthouse Padma in the city Friday, reports UNB.
"You could perceive well that we are looking for another way towards East apart from our relations with the West", the foreign adviser said.
Terming the planned Bangladesh-Myanmar road link as the Road of Friendship and Amity, the adviser said it would be best if the road could be connected with China and other South Eastern nations in future.
Earlier on the day, Adviser for Communications MA Matin and Myanmar Construction Minister Saw Tun signed an agreement on the construction of the 25-kilometre road, to be financed by Bangladesh.
"This road will help increase business and cultural contacts between the two countries", said Chowdhury, who visited Myanmar last April setting the ground for the agreement.
He said the bilateral relations between Dhaka and Yangon is moving ahead satisfactorily through various set mechanisms for the mutual benefit of the peoples of the two close neighbours.
