Bangladeshi UNDP official gets Vietnam awards

Vietnam has presented two prestigious awards to Subinay Nandy, who has served as the acting country director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Hanoi, reports BSS.
On the eve of his departure, Nandy was presented with the Vietnam Friendship Award, which is the Vietnam's highest civil award to a foreigner in recognition of his contribution to the development programme in that country, said a press release.
Earlier, on May 28, Nandy received a medal from the ministry of agriculture and rural development of Vietnam for his outstanding work in fighting avian flu.
The ministry of natural resources and environment also presented him with a medal on May 22 for supporting Vietnam's efforts to protect the natural resources and environment during his tenure in Vietnam since 2004.
Nandy served the UNDP Bangladesh office from 1992 to 1997 as the assistant resident representative. Then he joined UNDP Turkmenistan as the deputy resident representative. He also served the UNDP headquarters as the regional programme adviser from 2000 until he joined Vietnam in 2003 as the deputy resident representative. He also worked at UNDP China as the country director.
Subinay Nandy hails from Sylhet. Eminent singer Subir Nandy is his younger brother.
