The 70th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student wing of Awami League, was celebrated in the city and elsewhere across the country in a festive mood, reports BSS.
On the occasion, the BCL central committee members, led by its President Saifur Rahman Shohagh and General Secretary SM Jakir Hossain, placed wreaths at the portrait of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi at 7.30 am.
Later, different units of the organiSation, including BCL Dhaka University unit, Dhaka city north and south units and Jagannath University unit, placed wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu.
Earlier, the day's programmes began by hoisting national and party flags at the party office at 6.30 am.
Later, the BCL leaders cut cakes at Dhaka University Fazlul Haque Hall at 8 am where a number of leaders and activists were present.
Colourful processions were brought out by different district and upazila units to mark the day.
The BCL central committee will bring a colourful procession on January 6.
Besides, a voluntary blood donation campaign will be held on January 9 and educational materials would be distributed among students on January 11.
The BCL has been leading all democratic and progressive movements in the country since its foundation in 1948. This organisation attained victory in all struggles in exchange for great sacrifices.
Another report from Islamic University adds: The 70th founding anniversary of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL was celebrated on Thursday on the Islamic University (IU) campus in Kushtia in a befitting manner.
On the occasion, IU unit Chhatra League brought out a colourful procession and cut a cake.
BCL President-Secretary Shahinur Rahman and Jewel Rana respectively, among others, took part in the procession.
