The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) said on Monday that the country's border is now insecure because of the government's subservient foreign policy.
BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi made the remarks while talking to talking to journalists about the firing incident on the Bangladesh-Myanmar border on Monday.
"The US and the western world didn't give legitimacy to Bangladesh's dummy election held on January 7, 2024," he said, replying to a query on US President Joe Biden's letter sent to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Just some days ago, the US Department of State said very clearly that the election was marked with fraud and controversy, he said, adding: "I don't think so that they (western countries) have given concession on the question of democracy."
"The western countries usually maintain ties with many authoritarian governments. There is a relationship between one country to another on trade, commerce and cultural affairs," Rizvi said.
He further said they will continue their ongoing anti-government movement until achieving victory. Democracy is now being confined due to the prime minister's greed on holding power illegally.
The BNP leader observes that people are now getting enraged due to the government's attempts to suppress their freedom of speech.
Mr Rizvi said the prices of essential commodities have soared due to the misrule and looting.
He alleged that the government was suppressing opponents and opposite views through false cases, arrest and oppression.
"Sheikh Hasina's government is now taking a certificate of democracy from the country ruled by one party with an authoritarian government," he continued.
Due to a power crisis, the country's agriculture and industry sectors are facing difficulties, Mr Rizvi alleged.
"This dummy government has pushed the country's economy towards a dangerous anarchic situation," he maintained.
He also says that conspiracy is going on to hand over the country's vital source of garment sector to other country as the Awami League-led government has curtailed incentives to 43 industrial sectors, including RMG.
