BD can benefit from Nepal’s hydroelectric power: Khasru

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee Member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has said Bangladesh can be benefited by utilising hydroelectric power generated in Nepal.

"Bangladesh could hugely be benefited by utilising tremendous hydroelectric power potential of Nepal," he said.

The BNL leader came up with the remarks while talking to journalists after Ambassador of Nepal to Bangladesh Ghanshyam Bhandari held a meeting with BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the party chairperson's political office at Gulshan in the capital on Monday.

He said Bangladesh could utilise that hydroelectric power through using regional pool or directly leaving behind 15 years of bleak chapter of the country's power sector.

"Bangladesh ties with Nepal is years old. But we are yet to utilise the potentials between two counties. We couldn't bring the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to that level," he said.

"We have also agreed to strengthen the SAARC and utilise its potential. We also agreed to utilise economic prospect among the SAARC countries," he continued.

Meanwhile, BNP Standing Committee Member Mirza Abbas said it is possible to rebuild the country if Jamaat-e-Islami, BNP and other parties work together.

Otherwise he warned that the neighbouring India might continue to play tricks with Bangladesh.

"The neighbouring country should not be allowed to play with us. India understood on 5th August that the people of Bangladesh could form a rock solid unity among themselves in the interest of the country," he said.

He made the comments while speaking at a discussion and doa organised by Dhaka City South Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami at the Engineers of Institution, Bangladesh in the capital on Monday.
