BD-US security dialogue Sept 11

Fourth Security Dialogue between Bangladesh and the United States (US) will be held in Washington DC on September 11, reports UNB.

Announcing the date officially on Monday, the foreign ministry in the city said the both the countries will discuss regional cooperation, and traditional and non-traditional security issues including cooperation in countering terrorism at the dialogue.

Issues like cyber security, disaster management, military cooperation and peacekeeping operations in the UN will also be discussed in the dialogue.

The foreign ministry is expecting that the cooperation between the two countries would be strengthened further through the dialogue. Earlier on September 3, the US side confirmed the date of the security dialogue and mentioned that US Ambassador in Dhaka Marcia Bernicat is already in the United States to attend the Security Dialogue.

The discussion usually focuses on a broad range of security-related topics, including strategic priorities and regional issues, security assistance, global security, and non-proliferation cooperation.

Both Bangladesh and the USA will also discuss humanitarian assistance and disaster response issues at the highest levels of government, helping create a clear path forward for cooperation between the two countries.

Foreign Secretary (Bilateral and Consular) Mizanur Rahman will lead the six-member Bangladesh delegation while US side will be led by Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Bureau of Political-Military Affairs Todd C Chapman, said the Foreign Ministry media release.
