B'desh gets 52,461 cusecs of Ganges water in first 10 days of Jan

Bangladesh received 52,461 cusecs of water at the Hardinge Bridge point during the first 10 days of this month under the Bangladesh-India Ganges Water-Sharing Treaty of 1996, said a Joint Rivers Commission (JRC) statement Sunday.
According to the treaty, if the available water at the Farakka Barrage point is over 75,000 cusecs, India will get 40,000 cusecs and Bangladesh the remaining water.
Each side will receive equal share of 50 per cent in case of availability of water at the Farakka point is 70,000 cusecs or less. If it is between 70,000 and 75,000 cusecs, Bangladesh will get 35,000 cusecs and India the rest.
