BFIU freezes accounts of Chinmoy Das, 16 others involved with ISKCON

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) has frozen the bank accounts of 17 people involved in International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), including Sammilito Sanatan Jagaran Jote spokesman Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, reports bdnews24.com.

The BFIU has sent the instruction to banks and financial institutions.

A senior official of the BFIU informed the news agency of the order.

As a result, all transactions from the bank accounts of 17 people have been blocked for 30 days.

The individuals whose accounts have been frozen are Chandan Kumar Dhar alias Chinmoy Krishna Das, Kartik Chandra De, Anik Pal, Saroj Roy, Sushanta Das, Biswa Kumar Singha, Chandidas Bala, Jaydev Karmakar, Lipi Rani Karmakar, Sudhama Gaur Das, Laxman Kanti Das, Priyatosh Das, Rupan Das, Rupan Kumar Dhar, Ashish Purohit, Jagadish Chandra Adhikari and Sajal Das.

On Monday, Chinmoy, the principal of the ISKCON Pundarik Dham in Hathazari, Chattogram, was arrested in the capital.

Pundarik Dham's Facebook page alleged that he was taken away by police from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

The post, which included a picture of Chinmoy, read: "Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari has been taken away from Dhaka airport by individuals identified as the DB."

Chinmoy had spoken out as a member of the Hindu community to protest attacks on minorities across the country after the fall of the Awami League government on August 5.
