Apparel manufacturers would train up some unemployed youths as part of the government's plan to provide job to one member of each family of the country by ensuring skilled manpower, officials said.
Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) is going to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) soon with Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) under Public Private Partnership (PPP).
Under this MoU, BGMEA will start training the youths within one month at Kotalipara in Gopalganj on woven, knitwear and linkage machine operating courses.
BGMEA President Abdus Salam Murshedy told the FE, "A total of 120 people will be trained up under the project and BRDB will provide the infrastructural support."
"All the courses will begin as early as possible after the signing of the MoU and the duration of these training courses of different categories will be from one month to 10 weeks," he said.
"There will be some selected female trainees under the woven and knitwear courses on mandatory basis as 80 per cent of the workers of garment industries are women."
"Around 13,000 trainees have already passed in different training programmes across the country since 2007 and all of the trainees are successfully working in the factories of BGMEA."
He said, "We have already signed an agreement for establishing 27 technical training centres (TTCs) and 12 of them are successfully running to make skilled manpower in the readymade garment sector."
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina approved the proposal of providing job to a member of each of family of the country as per the election manifesto of the Grand Alliance.
