Bijoy Mela begins in Chandpur

CHANDPUR, Dec 9 (UNB): A month-long 'Muktijuddher Bijoy Mela-2009" began here Tuesday.
Freedom Fighter Flight Lieutenant (retd) AB Siddique inaugurated the Mela organised by Bijoy Mela Udjapan Committee, at Bijoy Mela Mancha, at Hasan Ali Government High School in the afternoon.
Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni attended the inaugural ceremony as the chief guest.
In her address, the foreign minister called upon the people of all walks of life to extend their all out cooperation and assistance to lead the country to the path of peace, progress and prosperity.
Bijoy Mela Udjapan Committee President Advocate Jahirul Islam presided over the inaugural ceremony.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Biswas M Azimuddin, Superintendent of Police Shahid Ullah Chowdhury, Awami League Chandpur District unit President Dr Shamsul Huq Bhuiyan and Secretary Abu Nayeem Dulal Patwary spoke on the occasion.
After the inaugural ceremony, a Bijoy Mela rally, led by the foreign minister, paraded the main streets of the town.
About 226 stalls have been set up in the Mela.
