RANGPUR, Mar 27 (BSS): Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury today hoped that the outstanding bilateral issues, including Teesta River water sharing, with India will be resolved through meaningful discussions in near future.
Referring to her recent meetings with Indian Prime Minister (PM) Dr Manmohan Singh and Speaker of the Indian Parliament Meira Kumar, she said that talks would be resumed with our friendly neighbour of India on issues like Teesta water sharing, land boundary, bilateral trade and commerce after the upcoming Indian parliament elections.
She said this while talking to local journalists after her arrival at Rangpur Circuit House this afternoon.
This is her first visit to the district after being elected a Member of the Parliament unopposed in the bye-election from Pirganj constituency on January 28 last.
Dr Shirin said the Awami League (AL) government has turned Rangpur into a division, conducted massive development works during the past five years and the remaining uplift activities, including supply of natural gas to Rangpur region, would get priority.
Answering to a question, the Speakers said AL always believes in democracy and constitution and the present Jatiya Sangsad, with 33 opposition MPs of Jatiya Party and 17 independent lawmakers is working effectively.
