BM College remains closed to avert more violence

BARISAL, May 2 (UNB): Brajo Mohan (BM) College has remained closed for two weeks following tension and amid panicky situation as rival BCL factions continued showdown on the campus Monday. BM College authority also asked the students, except examinees, to vacate the dormitories (students hostels) by Tuesday morning. College Principal Prof Nani Gopal Das said the decision was announced at 1:00pm Monday. Theoretical and practical examinations would be held as per schedule during this period and normal classes would be resumed on May 15, if the campus situation returns to normal, the principal said. On Friday noon two rival factions of BCL, led by Rafiq Serniabat, college BCL joint convener backed by former chief whip and district AL Secretary Abul Hasanat Abdullah and their rival faction led by Moin Tushar, college BCL joint convener backed by city AL president and BCC Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron, clashed and ransacked principal's room over immediate declaration of BM College students' union election. The clash left several students injured.
