Accusing the government of indulging in a deep-rooted conspiracy to destabilise the country, BNP has urged the professionals to be united to resist its plot, reports bdnews24.com.
"The government has established one-party rule by abusing the judiciary," said party senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Fakhrul, now in-charge of the party's organisational affairs, brought the allegation at a discussion at the National Press Club in the city Saturday.
He also alleged that the government created a constitutional vacuum in the country in the name of its review.
He said: "The country is passing through a critical time. The economy is in bad shape. The liquidity crisis in banks has worsened. There is no respite in price hike, while law and order on the downslide. Overall, people are living a miserable life."
Fakhrul also alleged that the government had been engaged in a pernicious campaign against BNP founder Ziaur Rahman.
"They want to make Zia a villain by distorting history," he added.
The discussion was addressed, among others, by former caretaker government adviser MA Mazed and Dhaka University former pro-vice chancellor AFM Yusuf Haider.
