The three affiliates of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) -- Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal, Swechchhasebak Dal, and Chhatra Dal -- have announced a joint programme in 10 divisions of the country in efforts to restore democracy.
Calling the July-August movement as a historical transition that has paved the way for building a new Bangladesh free from fascist ideals, the organisers said the youths are the new leaders and future of the country and as part of the vital force, the BNP's affiliates played the key role in anti-fascist movement and the journey towards democracy.
On behalf of the three organisations, Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal President Monayem Munna made the announcement at a press conference at BNP's Nayapaltan central office in the capital on Monday.
Munna said our goal is not only to take a political initiative, but also to try to create a production-oriented and people-friendly government system.
"The youth are not only voters in the country, but also policymakers, thoughtful partners and builders of a just state structure," he added.
We are planning to organise a two-day programme in each division. On the first day, a seminar titled 'Youth's Future Thought, Future Bangladesh' will be held, he said.
The discussion will cover employment, education, health, agriculture, environment, urbanisation, technology and political rights, and building a modern, humane and safe Bangladesh through youth empowerment.
Our ultimate goal is to ensure fascism can never rise again in democratic Bangladesh and those who violated human rights in the last 16 years and carried out genocide in the July-August movment should be quickly tried, he said.
He further said the people's aspirations should be fulfilled in sovereign Bangladesh and the fate of every person should be changed based on equality and justice.
On alleged misconduct carried out by some supporters of the associate bodies, Jubo Dal president said they take immediate actions as soon as they receive any complaint by closely monitoring the supporters. The programme has been undertaken by dividing the country's 10 organisational divisions into four larger divisions under the direction of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.
The first joint programme will be held in Chittagong from May 9 to 10 while the second will be held in Khulna from May 16 to 17.
On the other hand, the third programme will be held in Bogra from May 23 to 24, involving youth from Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions.
The last programme will be held in Dhaka from May 27 to 28. Youths from Dhaka, Faridpur, Sylhet and Mymensingh divisions will participate in this programme.
Swechasebak Dal President SM Jilani, Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Rakibul Islam and General Secretary Nasir Uddin, among others, were present at the press conference.
