Opposition BNP again demanded deployment of the army in Bhola-3 constituency to ensure peaceful environment for the by-election slated for April 24, reports UNB.
A two-member BNP delegation led by the party's standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan met Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) ATM Shamsul Huda Tuesday afternoon and sought the deployment of the army to improve the pre-election atmosphere.
The other member of the delegation was BNP senior joint secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
During more than an hour's meeting from 3:00pm, the BNP leaders who visited the Bhola-3 constituency comprising Lalmohon and Tajumuddin complained that ruling party goons had attacked and beat up BNP workers at different places and prevented them from campaigning.
Khan said that even in presence of Election Commissioner Sakhawat Hossain in the constituency the Awami League goons had attacked BNP leaders and workers.
Although the election commissioner had ordered the police to arrest the hoodlums, the administration ignored the order, he said.
