BNP always attempts to intrude into anti-govt movement: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said BNP always attempts to intrude into any agitation against the government and become mad to label it as anti-government movement, report agencies.
"BNP's only strategy is to create anarchy and conspiracy to usurp power after being rejected by the countrymen repeatedly," he said in a statement.
Quader said BNP leaders including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir shouldered innocent students to overthrow the government. The demands of the students and BNP are completely different, he said.
Awami League general secretary said it's only the demand of BNP and Jamaat, not of the students, for resignation of the government.
People's mandate is the only way to change a democratic government, he said, adding that constitutionally Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is empowered to run the government.
The AL general secretary said the government has shown its highest patience despite all difficulties. The government is giving its best efforts to provide protection to the countrymen from BNP-Jamaat's mayhem, he added.
Quader said the law enforcers did not arrest or repress any innocent student. They are arresting those who were found involved in terrorism and violent activities, he said.
He said the cyber terrorists are spreading propaganda through sending wrong news and fake photographs. BNP-Jamaat's terrorists carried out planned attack at different major establishments including BTV and metro rail.
He warned that every culprit will be brought to justice and the government is determined to restore peace and law and order.
He said the government has formed an investigation commission to investigate every violent incident and killing. The government is determined to bring all culprits under book after investigation, he added.
Quader urged the countrymen to remain alert against subversive activities of BNP-Jamaat and their cohorts.
BNP's income dipped significantly in 2023
BNP has submitted its annual financial statement to the Election Commission (EC) for the 2023 calendar year, showing that the party spent about Tk 25 million more than its income, reports UNB.
According to the audit report, BNP's income decreased significantly last year, prompting the party to cover the surplus expenditure by drawing from its previous bank deposits.
BNP Chairperson's Advisory Council member Bijon Kanti Sraker and assistant office secretary Taipul Islam Tipu submitted the financial report to the Election Commission at Nirbachon Bhaban in the city around 12:30 pm on Monday.
According to the report, the BNP earned about Tk 11 million and spent Tk 36 million in 2023.
In the 2022 calendar year, the party showed an income of about Tk 59 against its expenditure of about Tk 38 million.
The party's income saw a significant decline, while its expenditure also decreased slightly last year.
BNP stated that the main sources of its income were party members' subscriptions, donations, and interest from money deposited in banks.
