Awami League (AL) publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmud accused BNP of indulging in a conspiracy to create a Thailand-like situation in Bangladesh, reports UNB.

"BNP was born through a conspiracy. Their (BNP's) politics is always based on conspiracy. Their conspiracy is still on. Now they want to create a Thailand-like situation in Bangladesh," Dr Mahmud, also a former minister, said this while addressing a discussion organised by Deshratna Parishad at Dhaka Reporters' Unity (DRU) Sunday.

Dhaka City AL organising secretary Shahe Alam Murad spoke at the discussion with Deshratna Parishad president Chittaranjan Das in the chair.

Dr Mahmud alleged that Khaleda Zia and her associates, the anti-liberation forces, were involved in the recent incidents of killing and forced disappearance. "Khaleda Zia will be tried on charges of killing and making people forced disappeared."

He came down hard on the BNP chairperson for her remarks that a fresh movement will be waged when AL will be rotten further.

"The BNP leaders had issued many ultimatums. But none of them worked.  Her rotten leaders didn't take part in the movement. You (Khaleda) said you'll tidy up your party. You please do so to save your party from getting rotten," he added.
