Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina said Sunday all recent violences and destructive activities of BNP and its allies are guided out of the intention to destroy the country and bar the nation from achieving the goal of war of liberation, report agencies.
Pointing out the recent fake statement issued by BNP in the name of several US Congressmen, she said BNP intends to usurp power or overthrow the present government with the help of foreign force and in view of this they are even trying to deceive the people.
Wondering whether the BNP quarter wants to bring in a 2008-like government, the PM called upon all to be vocal against those BNP-Jamaat men who are now carrying out subversive activities across the country.
"I urge all to be united and vocal against those miscreants who are carrying out destructive acts, hurling petrol bombs at buses, CNG-run auto-rickshaws, private cars and other vehicles thus killing people. Those miscreants should have to be caught wherever they are found …we can't let our country to be destroyed before our eyes," the PM said delivering her introductory speech at a meeting with senior officials of the Liberation War Affairs Ministry and its various institutions at its conference room.
Recalling the countrywide destructive activities carried out by BNP-Jamaat men before the January-5 polls last year, she said: "Who would have come to power had there been no continuation of the democratic process after that election? An emergency government like that of 2008 or Martial Law? I don't know whether they (BNP-Jamaat) again want to bring such a government! But such things are no longer acceptable across the world."
Noting that there is no need to be dependent on others rather to be pro-people ones, the PM said: "People are the main strength and their support should be gained."
Hasina said that there are some people who have failed to form any party, unable to gain public support and do not think welfare of people always aspire for any unconstitutional or emergency government to gain personal benefits.
Referring to BNP, the PM said this political party has been out of parliament after taking a wrong political decision of boycotting the January 5 polls and is now trying to burn the country out of their despair.
The Prime Minister urged all to be aware about them and directed the Liberation War Affairs Ministry to widely publicise the true history of the War of Liberation.
Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque delivered the address of welcome on the occasion. PM's Principal Secretary Md Abdus Sobhan Sikder, Ministry Acting Secretary MA Hannan and PM's Press Secretary AKM Shameem Chowdhuri were, among others, present at the meeting.
