BNP completed interviewing grassroots leaders Tuesday as part of efforts to revamp the beleaguered party, reports bdnews24.com.
During a span of 21 days, select central committees have taken cognisance of the perceptions of BNP thana level leaders of 68 districts, excepting the four metropolitan committees of Dhaka, Barisal, Rajshahi and Sylhet.
At the central office at Naya Polton Tuesday, Panchagarh district and Khulna metropolitan city committees were interviewed.
Acting joint secretary general Mirza Abbas also responsible for Rajshahi Division, and organising secretary Amanullah Aman interviewed the Panchagarh district thana leaders.
Simultaneously, Selima Rahman, responsible for Khulna metropolitan city, interviewed the Khulna city leaders of the party.
"After the field-level perceptions and opinions were compiled as a report and presented before the standing committee, the 'appropriate next steps' will be considered," secretary general Khandoker Delwar Hossain told the bdnews24.com at noon.
"Six organising committees are expected to submit their reports separately within a few days, which would be reviewed by the standing committee before necessary measures are taken."
The national standing committee, BNP's highest policymaking forum, will meet today (Wednesday) and on February 28, said office secretary Rizvi Ahmed.
Chairperson Khaleda Zia is scheduled to preside over those meetings, he added.
Starting on February 3, the thana-level leaders articulated the grassroots state of the party and its workers before the organising committee leaders through February 24.
"We have finished listening to and recording the opinions of Chittagong division thana leaders. After compilation of the findings, the report will be submitted before the standing committee within a few days," Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, chief of Chittagong Division organising committee, told the news agency.
On the nature of the recommendations, he said, the thana leaders favoured expulsion of the dishonest and drafting in the honest and dedicated activists.
Selima Rahman told the news agency that they had received allegations from the grassroots of various anomalies and feuds and would make recommendations accordingly.
"The thana leaders demanded that those who stood erect facing the January 1 debacle must be evaluated duly and we'll do that while presenting our recommendations before the chairperson," Mirza Abbas told the news agency.
