BNP has to suffer for not joining JS polls: Quader

Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said BNP has to suffer for the mistake it made by failing in movement and boycotting the Jatiya Sangsad (JS) election, report agencies
Lamenting for BNP for not joining the January 7 election, Awami League (AL) General Secretary Obaidul Quader has said the BNP will soon realise how much they have shrunk in politics keeping themselves out of the national election race.
They (BNP) will have to pay for a long time for not participating in the election, he observed.
Quaders, also road, transport and bridges minister, came up with the remarks while exchanging views with journalists at Daganbhuiyan Upazila Parishad of Feni on Monday.
He said those who (BNP) criticise at home will also do so (criticism) at home and abroad.
Replying to a question, the AL leader said, "It seems surprising to me that Mirza Fakhrul did not go to people on the pretext of illness after coming out of jail. He went to the US delegation with a stick in his hand to lodge a complaint. "
Slamming BNP's complaint habit to the foreigners, Quader said the BNP feels comfort to lodge complaints to the foreigners instead of people while they (AL) will have to reply to the complaints.
He said the general election was held braving many difficulties as there were various domestic and foreign conspiracies to thwart the election. But Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina did not fear anyone.
"Sheikh Hasina faced the plot with courage and determination and thus she has taken herself to unique height as the longest-serving female Prime Minister in the world," Quader said.
About the party's decision over the upcoming upazila elections, the AL general secretary said this time the AL will not giving any nominations from the party in the polls as well as the boat symbol will not be given to anyone.
Everything will remain open for all, he added.
He said the Dhaka-Chattogram highway will be upgraded to six-lane with two service lanes on both sides.
The government is also considering turning the highway into an elevated expressway in the near future, he added.
