SHERPUR, Jan 14 (BSS): Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury said Wednesday that BNP would have to wait for five years for the next national elections.

"BNP will have to wait for five years ... there will be no positive results of torching vehicles, killing people and creating anarchism...the people of the country gave Awami League (AL) a consent for five years to run the country."

The minister said this at a rally after distributing warm clothes among the students of 28 non-government high schools of Marichpur Union under Nalitabari Upazila.

"The Prime Minister called her (Begum Zia) over phone for having a dialogue to solve the problems but she declined ...now she has to discard the politics of vengeance and take preparation for the next parliamentary polls which will be held in 2019 according to the Constitution.

She also donated Tk 12.5 million among six women organisations. Acting Deputy Commissioner M Haider Ali, Additional Police Super Mahibul Islam Khan, Upazila AL convener Prof Mostafizur Rahman were present, among others.

UNB adds: Matia Chowdhury said sand-laden trucks have been kept around BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan political office to protect it from any bomb attack.

"They've been asking why sand-laden trucks? Everybody knows it if any explosive is hurled that doesn't explode on sand. So the sand-laden trucks had to be placed there," she said.

"And when the lock was opened she (Khaleda) insisted she wouldn't go.

She is making a fun sitting over there," the minister added.

Matia also noted that it was Khaleda who filed a GD seeking security and her Gulshan political office had to be protected in response as various types of people frequent the office.
