Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader on Thursday said BNP is the patron of destructive evil forces, reports BSS.

He came up with the remark while speaking at a press briefing on contemporary issues at his Secretariat office.

Quader, also the road transport and bridges minister, said those who have taken the path of killings and conspiracy as a political strategy are the main impediment to the country's progress.

"The BNP is an obstacle to the politics of coexistence in this country. Its destructive politics is putting the environment of coexistence at risk day after day," he said.

The AL general secretary said although BNP speaks of democracy, it always believes in the politics of conspiracy and vengeance.

He said a responsible opposition party is needed in the ongoing progress of democracy under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, but the party fails to discharge its proper responsibility to this effect .

Responding to the allegations of BNP leaders, Quader questioned, "Are distortion of the independence's history, the democracy of curfew at the dead night, and patronising communal forces the spirits of independence?"

"Disgracing the country to foreigners, persecuting minorities, indulging in graft in the name of Hawa Bhaban - if those are the BNP's spirit of independence, we have nothing to say," he said.

The AL general secretary said BNP has been containing and implementing these spirits since its birth.

"By hoisting national flags in the cars of anti-liberation forces, the BNP leaders are now talking about the spirits of the Liberation War . There must be a limit of shamelessness," he said.

Mentioning that BNP detained democracy in pocket, Quader said after assuming power in 2001, BNP killed a large number of AL leaders and workers.

He said BNP snatched away the rights of people through anarchy and arson terrorism and becoming world champion in corruption were the best achievements of BNP.

Responding to a statement of BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the AL general secretary said the trial of BNP has already begun in the court of people for its ill-politics.

The BNP is now on the dock of history due to its falsehood and ill-politics, he added.

Earlier, outgoing German Ambassador in Dhaka Peter Fahrenholtz met Qauder at his office.

After the meeting, the minister said a fruitful discussion was held to strengthen the existing economic and friendly relations between the two countries.

He said Bangladesh has trade relations with Germany, a country of the European Union.
