Senior Awami League (AL) leader Suranjit Sengupta alleged Friday that BNP and Jamaat are plotting anew to topple the government with the help of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) of Pakistan and other foreign intelligence agencies, reports UNB.
"BNP and Jamaat are hatching new conspiracies to oust the incumbent government with the assistance of the ISI and some other foreign intelligence agencies. However, they'll fail again as in the past," he said.
Mr Sengupta, also chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law Ministry, was addressing a discussion organised by Bangabandhu Academy at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium.
The veteran ruling party leader urged all non-communal and democratic forces to remain alert together with his party leaders and activists to foil any conspiracy against the government.
Harshly criticising the desecration of idols of Hindu goddess Durga in Kishoreganj and Jamalpur districts, he blamed BNP-Jamaat men for the act.
Chaired by AL city unit joint secretary Haji Mohammad Selim, the discussion was also addressed by former State Minister for Home Affairs Shamshul Hoque Tuku.
Meanwhile, Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling party Dr Hasan Mahmud alleged Friday that failing to face her politically, BNP-Jamaat combine has been hatching conspiracy to assassinate Prime Minister (PM) Sheikh Hasina.
The AL leader said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on "People's leader Sheikh Hasina in consolidating democracy, progress and development" in the city.
Amara Muktijoddhar Santan, an organisation of the offspring of freedom fighters, organised the discussion with its president Md Humayun Kabir in the chairat the National Press Club.
Conducted by its general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, the discussion was also addressed, among others, by AL Liberation War affairs secretary Captain (retd) AB Tajul Islam, MP, and Awami Swechchasebak League central leader Rafiqul Islam Liton.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said, "There were several attempts on the life of Sheikh Hasina in the past. The conspiracy is not against the government or the Awami League. It's a conspiracy to eliminate Sheikh Hasina from politics. So, a befitting reply should be given to the conspirators."
The AL leader said, "BNP has become a refugee in the field of politics now. Khaleda Zia is solely responsible for the precarious state of her party. She pursues the politics of killing of people, arson and torching of public and private properties. BNP is in a shame state now due to these types of decisions of its chairperson."
