Food Minister Advocate Quamrul Islam said on Friday BNP-Jamaat is attempting to create anarchy in the country in the name of Movement, reports BSS.

"BNP-Jamaat led alliance launched destructive activities last year to foil January 5 parliamentary elections to halt democratic process in the country. But they failed to foil the election," he said at a discussion at the

Bir Uttam Khaja Nizamuddin auditorium at Segunbagicha in the city.

Bangladesh Swadhinata Parishad organised the discussion protesting derogatory remarks on Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the War of Liberation made by Senior Vice Chairman of BNP Tarique Rahman.

Publicity and Publication Secretary of Awami League (AL) Dr Hasan Mahmud, organising secretary of Dhaka City AL Shahe Alam Murad and general secretary of Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote Arun Sarkar Rana, among others, spoke at the discussion with president of the Parishad Hasibur Rhaman Manik in the chair.

After the January 5 general election, peace and stability are prevailing in the country, Quamrul said adding the government will resist any kind of violent activities of BNP-Jamaat to protect lives and properties of the people. BNP has to face dire consequences, if they launch any violence in the name of movement, he added.

BNP wants to create unstable situation like 2013, Hasan Mahmud said, adding that the government will not give any scope to them for carrying out any destructive activities in the country.

He blamed BNP for spoiling the political environment destroying democratic practices in the country. Both Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman should be eliminated from politics for maintaining healthy political environment, he added.
