A Dhaka court Monday placed three people, including BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia's adviser Shamsuzzaman Dudu, on a five-day remand each in a case filed under the Special Powers Act, reports UNB.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Aminul Islam passed the order when Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, sub-inspector of Mirpur model police station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court, seeking a 10-day remand for each.
The two other accused were Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Liton, secretary of Mirpur ward 14 unit Jubo Dal, and Didar, an activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Miscreants set a bus afire in the city's Shewrapara area on Sunday, the 6th day of the countrywide blockade enforced by the BNP-led 20-party alliance.
Later, police filed a case against 40 identified people, including the BNP leaders, and scores of unidentified people in connection with the arson attack.
Police arrested Dudu and two others from Jhutpatti Rabbani Hotel in the city's Mirpur area Sunday night.
Meanwhile, detectives allegedly picked up Shamimur Rahman Shamim, an assistant office secretary of BNP, from a house at Shankar in the city Monday.
"DB police picked up Shamim from the residence of his friend around 5.00 pm," BNP chairperson's media wing member Shamsuddin Didar told the news agency.
Earlier, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) picked up BNP joint secretary general Mohammad Shajahan and its executive member Belal Ahmed from the city's Gulshan area early Monday.
Officials at the RAB headquarters said a team of RAB-1 picked up the two leaders from the residence of a relative of Shajahan at Gulshan around 5:30am.
The two leaders were taken to the RAB headquarters.
