Publicity and Publication Affairs Secretary of the ruling Awami League (AL) and former Environment Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud said Monday as the BNP leadership has been suffering from frustration they have expressed frustration on the proposed national budget, reports BSS.
"Those who usually suffer from frustration came up with remarks that the budget was over ambitious as they want to push the nation into frustration. But, we have the track record of implementing the national budget and that's why we have presented such an overambitious budget. We have proved it by implementing 97 per cent of the budget for the last fiscal year," he said.
Dr Hasan Mahmud said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on the "current politics, fulfilment of people's expectations in the proposed budget" organised by Deshoratna Sebak Parishad at the conference lounge of the National Press Club in the city.
President of the organisation Chitta Ranjan Das chaired the discussion, also addressed, among others, by Krishak League vice-president MA Karim, Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote general secretary Arun Sarker Rana and Swadhinata Chikitshak Parishad general secretary Shahjahan Alam Saju.
Mr Mahmud said, "Some leaders of BNP-Jamaat and a few intellectuals have been criticising the proposed budget without going for its analysis. Go through the total budget and then criticise it. We will accept your criticism based on their acceptability."
In reply to BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia's remarks that
BNP is ready to sit for talks with the government at any time on the issue of holding polls under caretaker government, the AL leader said, "We wanted dialogue. Before the January 5 polls, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina invited you at Ganobhaban not only for talks but also for taking part in dinner. But, you ridiculed that invitation and instead threw a 48-hour ultimatum to the government. Now you are in favour of talks!"
