The State Minister for Home Shamsul Haque Tuku has alleged that the BNP-led four party alliance government gave birth to militancy and had patronized, reports bdnews24.com.
The minister was speaking to journalists, after a meeting on the review of the campaign against militancy, at the ministry's conference room Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by home secretary Abdus Sobhan Sikder, inspector general of police Hasan Mahmud Khondker and other concerned officials.
The state minister urged the imams, teachers, Ansar-VDP personnel and others to work pro-actively in the matter.
Tuku urged BNP to cooperate in the quick trial of war criminals.
Citing a number of activities, including August 21 grenade attack, 10 truck arms' import, killings of former finance minister Shah AMS Kibria and former parliamentarian Ahsanullah Master, he claimed that the opposition had initiated militancy in the country.
The state minister alleged that the incidents were government-backed and that the investigations saw reluctant effort at the time.
Asked about what steps the government was taking against the miscreants inside the ruling Awami League (AL), Tuku said, "The government has already ordered taking stern action against those who have been a threat to public security."
Marking the step as unprecedented, he added that many of those were already jailed and many miscreants were absconding out of fear.
