BNP poll coordination body meets tomorrow

The BNP-formed 'Election Coordination Committee' (ECC) for the upcoming Dhaka North and South City Corporation elections will sit at the party's central office at Nayapaltan on Friday (tomorrow), party sources said.
The party has decided to start campaigns for the mayoral and councilor candidates of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) and Dhaka Nouth City Corporation (DNCC) from Friday.
The DSCC, DNCC and Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) elections will be held on April 28.
Mirza Abbas, a member of the party standing committee, will contest the polls with the symbol 'mug' for the DSCC while Tabith Awal, son of BNP chairperson's Adviser Abdul Awal Minto, is vying for the DNCC mayoral post.
The Election Coordination Committee will give responsibility to the leaders based in Dhaka for conducting campaigns for the polls, a highly-placed source of the BNP informed.
BNP chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia recently formed two coordination committees under the banner of Adorsho Dhaka Andolon to look after the election campaign activities.
Party standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed and Brigadier General (retd) Hannan Shah have been given the task of coordinating the election campaigns for DNCC and DSCC respectively.
The BNP chairperson at a programme on the first day of the Bangla New Year, organised by Jatiyatabadi Sangskritik Jote (JASAS) on Tuesday, called upon the people to elect the party-backed mayoral and councilor candidates through a silent revolution.
Meanwhile, Mirza Abbas said he will personally start campaign for votes 'very soon'.
The High Court on Wednesday gave a split verdict on bail in two criminal cases against Mirza Abbas.
Abbas was present in the court. He has been absent so far from his publicity campaign ahead of the polls.
Attorney General Mahbubey Alam said on Wednesday police can arrest Mirza Abbas in a corruption case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) as he is yet to obtain bail in the case.
