Awami League (AL) publicity and publication secretary Dr Hasan Mahmood said Saturday that the BNP should apologise to the international community for "forgery of information," reports BSS.
"The BNP has now started forgery of information with the international leaders as it is habituated in deceiving people of Bangladesh," he said while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion at Khaja Nazimuddin auditorium in the city.
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) organised the discussion to mark the Homecoming Day of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with its vice president Mobarak Ali Sikder in the chair.
Describing the so-called conversation between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah and BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia as an organised drama, Dr Hasan said the conversation with BJP president Amit Shah and the statement of the US state department were baseless and false.
Food minister and joint general secretary of Awami League (AL) Dhaka city unit Advocate Quamrul Islam addressed the discussion as the main speaker, while Organising Secretary Shahe Alam Murad, Awami League central sub-committee assistant secretary Advocate Balaram Poddar spoke.
General Secretary of BSJ Arun Sarkar Rana conducted the discussion.
Criticising BNP's continued blockade during the second largest Muslim congregation, the Biswa Ijtema, the parliamentary standing committee on Environment and Forest Ministry chairman Dr Hasan said BNP is not only the enemy of the people but also enemy of the Islam because Khaleda Zia did not withdraw her blockade during Ijtema.
UNB adds: Taking a swipe at BNP for its ongoing countrywide transport blockade, Awami League (AL) joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said Saturday a movement cannot be conducted by carrying out sniper attacks, reports UNB.
"Sniper attacks only create panic in public minds… no movement can be carried out through clandestine attacks," he said.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters after placing wreaths at the portrait of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman at Dhanmondi, marking the historic Homecoming Day of Bangabandhu, the architect of Bangladesh.
Referring to the current non-stop countrywide blockade, Mr Hanif said people would resist BNP if they do not stop their sniper attacks and terrorist activities in name of movement.
About the telephonic conversations between BNP chief Khaleda Zia and India's ruling party BJP chief Amit Shah, Mr Hanif said, "There had been no such conversations between Khaleda Zia and Amit Shah. Instead, attempts were made from Khaleda's political office twice over the phone. But, there had been no conversation, as Amit's phone was not functional at that time."
Such false statement only tarnishes the country's image, he added.
