The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) reported an income of Tk 156.6 million and expenditures of Tk 40.8 million in the calendar year 2024, resulting in a surplus of Tk 108.6 million, according to its audited financial report submitted to the Election Commission (EC).
BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi disclosed the details during a press briefing following the submission of the report.
As per EC regulations, all registered political parties are required to submit their audited financial statements by July 31 each year. "We've consistently submitted our audit reports on time, setting an example of democratic accountability in Bangladesh," Mr Rizvi said.
He noted that the party's income sources include monthly contributions from members of the National Executive Committee, sales of books and publications, individual and institutional donations, and interest earnings from bank deposits.
On the expenditure side, he said major costs included financial assistance to individuals, flood relief distribution, poster and leaflet printing, organising public meetings and seminars, hall rentals, newspaper advertisements, Iftar events during Ramadan, and various operational expenses.
"Our audit report transparently details these categories and adheres to professional financial standards," Mr Rizvi added.
During the briefing, the BNP leader also strongly criticised the role of previous Election Commissions, accusing them of enabling voter suppression, rigging elections, and being complicit in grave human rights violations such as enforced disappearances and extrajudicial killings of opposition activists.
Calling for institutional reforms, he expressed hope that the current Election Commission would assert its constitutional authority and ensure a fair electoral environment.
