The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) has vowed to hold its grand rally in front of Naya Paltan party headquarters on October 28 despite not yet receiving permission from the police.
Senior BNP leader Gayeshwar Chandra Roy on Wednesday warned that if the party was not allowed to hold the rally at Naya Paltan, its leaders and activists would spread out to all parts of the city.
"It is as simple as that: we will hold our rally on October 28," he said. "If we are not allowed to hold our rally at our designated place, then we will be spread out at all lanes and alleys of the capital. We will come to the streets and roads whatever we have."
To press home its demand for a poll-time neutral caretaker government, BNP plans for a massive gathering on October 28, from where the political opposition is expected to announce the next course of its anti-government campaign.
Earlier, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the rally would be held "no matter what".
"We will hold our rally in front of our party's central office at Naya Paltan, whether we are permitted by the police or not," he said.
