The BNP will lay siege to Deputy Commissioner (DC)’s offices across the country on Thursday protesting the violence during Upazila (UZ) Parishad elections, abduction and arrests of its leaders. BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the protest plans at the party’s Naya Paltan headquarters on Tuesday afternoon. The BNP would also submit memorandum at the DC offices on that day. In the first three phases of UZ polls, BNP-led 19-Party alliance-backed candidates got more seats than those endorsed by the ruling Awami League (AL). Some 126 BNP favourites won chairman’s posts in the first three phases of polls while the AL-blessed chairman candidates won in 121 Upazilas. Each phase of polls was marked by violence, its intensity increasing after every phase, according to bdnews24.com.
