NARAYANGANJ, Jan 28 (UNB): Awami League (AL) general secretary Obaidul Quader said on Sunday BNP will have to stand trial for threatening the court which is set to pronounce its verdict in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case.

"If BNP wants to create any anarchy centring the verdict, then not only the government but also the country's people will resist it," he said.

The AL leader was talking to journalists after inaugurating the piling works on the 3rd Shitalakshya Bridge at Syedpur in the port city.

On January 25, the Special Court-5 in Dhaka fixed February 8 to deliver the verdict in the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case against Khaleda and five others.

The ACC filed the Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on July 3, 2008 with Ramna thana accusing Khaleda, her eldest son Tarique Rahman, now living in the UK, and four others of misappropriating over Tk 21 million that came as grants from a foreign bank for orphans.

Quader also said the bridge is being constructed with Saudi financing and the construction work will be completed by 2020. "The bridge will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina," he added.

Narayanganj-5 MP AKM Salim Osman, Narayanganj-4 MP Shamim Osman, local chairmen Nowshad Ali and Jatiya Party district president Abul Zaher, general secretary Akram Ali Shaheen, Sanaullah Shanu, Rotarian Gias Uddin Chowdhury, Shahadat Hossain Rupu, Shah Alam and Chhatra League leader Arafaq Kabir Fahim were, among others, present on the occasion.
