BNP standing committee member Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain Saturday said if BNP comes to power, the first task of his party will be to unify the divided Dhaka City Corporation (DCC), reports UNB. "If BNP comes to power, our leader Khaleda Zia's first task will be to unify the DCC," he said at a protest rally at Badda Gudaraghat in the city. Badda thana BNP organized the protest rally with Comissioner MA Kayum in the chair. The rally was a part of BNP's five-day demonstration program in the capital to protest the attack on immediate past DCC mayor Sadek Hossain Khoka and to press for unifying the two city corporations. Mosharraf alleged the government has split up the DCC at the instruction of the Prime Minister defying experts' opinions. The division of the DCC has also divided the people. Referring to the ruling party arguments behind the splitting of the DCC that it would increase services for city-dwellers, he said it is not the DCC's task to solve gas, water and electricity crises in the capital. There are concerned authorities for these services and they are responsible to solve these crises," he added. Criticising the Prime Minister's remark on the country's economic condition, the BNP leader questioned how she could claim that the country's economy is in good condition when share market is destroyed and the government is borrowing money from banks everyday. Mosharraf said the government's wrong decisions, incompetence and corruption are the main reasons behind the bad shape of economy. The BNP leader alleged the government pursues subservient foreign policy and for that it can not protest against India's move to construct Tipaimkh dam. He alleged the government is filing false cases against BNP leaders including Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman to keep them away from taking part in the next general elections and stifle their voice against the government's mischief. Mosharraf called on the people to oust the government through mass upsurge as the nation's independence and sovereignty is not safe under this government.
