BNP wants to establish a govt elected by people: Gayeshwar

FE REPORT | October 25, 2024 00:00:00

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) standing committee member, said on Thursday that they just want to establish a govt elected by the people and would allow required time to the interim government for holding general election.

If that time is abused then BNP activists will not sit idle at houses, he warned at a discussion event with political parties held at Bangladesh Press Club in the capital.

"Let us wait to see for some days and after that time we would do what we did in the past," he said after reminding the audience that the party is under the leadership of the party's acting chairman Tarique Rahman.

"We would again go for struggle on the streets as we did in the past. We just want to establish a government elected by the people through a free and neutral election," Gayeshwar added.

He said that BNP is happy with the interim government that they banned Chhatra League, but requested an action plan if BNP was banned as well.

"The interim government banned Chhatra League. It was a challenging task. We are happy. We are not objecting it. But if BNP was banned then what should we do?" he said.

"Many leaders of Jamaat were hanged to death and tortured by the then Awami League government. Jamaat didn't announce ban on a fascist person like Sheikh Hasina," he said about Jamaat-e-Islami.

"Those who in the name of different organisations have killed people and committed enforced disappearances are now passing days in comfort. Please nab them and ensure trial and set an exemplary punishment," he said.

Meanwhile in an another development, Begum Selima Rahman, another BNP standing committee member, said, "If you have any aim to ensure that everyone should get back their rights then try to move forward the country on the right path by discussing with the leaders of political parties and professionals," she mentioned.
