RAJSHAHI, May 09 (BSS): State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam has hoped that BNP will surely take part in the next general elections for its survival as its boycotting decision in the 2014 polls was totally wrong.
"Not taking part in the 2014 elections, the BNP is now on the verge of extinction so it has no way but to participate in the next polls for at least its survival," he categorically said.
He was addressing the triennial council of Nimpara Union Awami League at Nandangachhi High School playground of Charghat Upazila in the district yesterday afternoon as the chief guest.
Shahriar Alam urged the local Awami League (AL) leaders and workers to be united forgetting all the previous feuds for keeping the party's win spree in the next elections.
He told the meeting that the country attained remarkable success in all development sectors due to consistency of Sheikh Hasina's government for the last 13 consecutive years.
The state minister said now none needs to come to him with the problems related to power and road communication and the application for construction of school buildings has reduced to half as most of the educational institutions have got buildings.
Turning to the price of soyabean oil, he said the government has fixed the price of bottled soyabean oil at Taka 198 per litre.
He also said the edible oil is being sold at 240 rupees meaning Taka 270 per litre in Kolkata and 436 rupees meaning Taka 290 in Pakistan.
He stated that the entire world is passing through a problem at present.
"We do not produce oil and import it from Russia and Ukraine. But a deadly war is going on in those countries. So, our main task is survival during this situation," the state minister opined.
Local AL leaders Anwar Hossain, Fakhrul Islam, Messer Ali, Jakirul Islam and Ekramul Haque also spoke.
