BNP writes EC objecting to Hasina's polls campaign

BNP sent on Tuesday a letter to the Election Commission (EC) registering its objection to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's 'unilateral' election campaign in favour of her party at home and abroad expending public money, reports UNB.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sent the letter to Chief Election Commission (CEC) KM Nurul Huda.

BNP Assistant Office Secretary Monir Hossain handed over the letter to the commission.

In the letter, the party elaborately described when and how the prime minister sought vote for her party's election symbol 'boat' from the country's people at different rallies and from Bangladesh expatriates during her tour to different countries.

Contacted, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the prime minister is carrying out a lopsided election campaign in favour of her party spending money from the public exchequer and her party ministers are also doing the same.

"We think such unilateral campaign is a major obstacle to holding a fair and credible election in the country. So, we apprise the Election Commission of the matter."
