BNP’s 10th round of blockade from tomorrow

FE REPORT | December 05, 2023 00:00:00

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) declared a further 48-hour blockade, scheduled to begin at 6:00 am tomorrow (Wednesday), as part of their one-point demand for the government's resignation.

It will be the 10th round of the blockade programme of the opposition parties since October 31.

Additionally, the party intends to organize a human chain event on December 10, marking International Human Rights Day.

Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, BNP's Senior Joint Secretary General, disclosed these plans during a virtual press conference on Monday afternoon.

"Human chain programme will be held in district headquarters and cities across the country, including Dhaka, in participation with the family members of the arrested BNP party leaders and activists," he said.

Along with their call for the government's resignation, Rizvi outlined that the blockade aims to protest the prevailing disorder in the country, government-linked corruption, capital flight, assaults on BNP members, their widespread arrests, and demanded the immediate release of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other incarcerated leaders.

This forthcoming blockade marks the 10th phase, following the conclusion of the preceding 48-hour blockade on Tuesday morning.

BNP and allied parties demonstrated through rallies across different parts of the city during the blocked observation on Monday.

In a separate incident, unidentified individuals set ablaze a bus named Tanzil Paribahan in Gulistan area of the city on Monday afternoon.
